PUBLIC
RELATIONS OFFICER’S REPORT
To the WP&CSNZ
AGM June 2011
From Brian
Schroder
We have
been lucky to have the site at the Christchurch A & P Show, just
inside the RDA Pavilion opposite the Horse Marshalling yards. Thanks
must go to the generous members who have donated the site cost over
the last few years and to Lois Newick and Sandra Evers who help us
set up and clear away. The site is easy to find and a good point of
contact for busy exhibitors, judges and stewards to meet up when
they get a chance. I always have a cup of tea or coffee going. We
get a lot of interest from locals and overseas visitors when they
see the Welsh flag, but it is disappointing that local Breeders do
not make use of the free advertising space available to them to put
up photos and their Stud Boards.
The Welsh
Show in Canterbury is another chance to fly the flag and we thank
the Canterbury Welsh Pony & Cob Show Group for making us welcome,
the sales table is well supported. Once again I have to thank Sandra
Evers and her brother for supplying and erecting the tent for us, we
really needed it on the first morning as it was very wet and I had a
few extra visitors one of them four legged.
We will be
auctioning some of the dated U K and Australian Journals later
today, they are a mine of information and great reference books for
real Welsh enthusiasts, so I hope you will be ready to snap up some
bargains. I also have the latest U K Journal and other books of
interest on the sales table.

I was asked
by The Editor of the U K Journal to submit some extra articles for
their latest Journal, their 50th, about people and ponies in New
Zealand giving an overview of how the Welsh Breed is performing
here. While trying to decide who to write about I looked at the
people who have been breeding Welsh for twenty-five years plus and I
was heartened to see several who still breed, prepare and compete in
different performance areas, it made the selection process quite
difficult. I just hope that some of our newer breeders will be as
dedicated and still going in twenty-five or more years.
After the
devastating earthquake I received emails from Dr Wynne Davies from
the Welsh Pony & Cob Society in Wales and Michele Baker, the
Chairman Committee of Management, for the Australian Society sending
the best wishes of their members to the people of Canterbury with
their sympathy for those who lost loved ones and property.
I have
decided not to seek nomination for this Job this year, I am sure
there is someone younger with more up to date computer, journalistic
and photographic skills out there who can meet the requirements to
report on the Society’s activities and Competitions for the U K and
Australian Journals.
I
appreciate the support I received over the last fifteen years and
for me it has been a wonderful interest, I have met so many good
people and ponies, but all good things must come to an end.
