Priscilla Neill Trophy

The late Priscilla Neill was the first Publicity Officer for this Society she joined the new Society in 1966. At the time she lived at Middlemarch and thru her contacts she was able to compile a history of the Welsh Cobs in New Zealand, she wrote to Cob breeders in the UK to research bloodlines and gain a picture of the Cobs that had been imported here which also helped those wanting to import more she had a particular interest in the importing of Llanina Morning Blaze the Sec D stallion who stood at Sunny Brae Stud with Mary and Leo Brosnahan.

The Society has access to the book where she recorded the photos, letters and newspaper clippings of the time. Priscilla was a prolific writer and researched everything carefully before she published, so her articles are a reliable source of information. She wrote for magazines both here and overseas, about the Society and the Cobs as well as the Sec As and Bs. In Volume one of the Stud Book is a history she wrote of the Society and the first imported Sec A, Sec B and the Cobs.

Along with her research the Priscilla Neil Trophy is a living legacy from her to all dedicated to the Welsh Pony Breed. In 1996 while she was suffering failing health she commissioned a bronze Cob mounted on a wooden stand and presented it to the Society asking Council to award it to award and they thought best. Council considered it should be presented as and when the honour was called for to a living person or pony making an outstanding contribution to the breed and or the Society. This is considered the highest award the Society can bestow upon the recipient.

The 2018 Priscilla Neill Trophy was awarded to Robin Graham

Service Awards

These awards were presented for the first time at the 2011 AGM in Christchurch. They are presented for service to the Welsh Pony & Cob breed in New Zealand. These are a Council Award with one presented to members in each Island. For many years we have had people quietly working away in their areas in which they live, breeding Ponies or Cobs, encouraging new breeders, keeping shows running so others can participate and enjoy the welsh Breed. It was felt that these members should be recognised in form of a certificate.

NORTH ISLAND SERVICE AWARD - Ngaire Crockett

SOUTH ISLAND SERVICE AWARD - Heather Lilley

There are many Welsh Pony and Cob shows run throughout New Zealand here are some of the results
